EUOC - 10 DAYS UNTIL THE OPENING

Prostějov is ready for kick-off.

Only something more than a week is left until the opening of the historically first ever European Universities Orienteering Championship. And the “kick-off” of this championship will take place just in Prostějov. On Tuesday’s afternoon (more precisely from 5 PM) the best academic sprinters will run out on the courses of an event in the city centre.

Centre of the event is located in the Sportcentrum DDM at the Vápenice Street and courses which are ready will be 2,2 km for women and 2,6 km for men long. “The building at the Vápenice Street has been completely reconstructed and I really welcome that it will be used for an event with such importance. In future we would like to organise more similar events,” we were told by the director of the Sportcentrum DDM Mr. Jan Zatloukal. Also Deputy Mayor of Burgh Prostějov Mr. Jan Krchňavý is pleased with the fact that the first competition will take place in Prostějov: “I will be really glad to take part in the event and it will be my honour to reward the best competitors. We support orienteers from the Prostějov Orienteering Club and I am glad that they managed to get such an event to the streets of our city. I am also pleased that at the start will be home competitors from Prostějov Club.” The prize giving ceremony is scheduled at 6:45 PM.

And what about the participation on that premiere championship? The chairman of the organising committee Mr. Dušan Vystavěl answers: “In total 142 competitors, who will represent 51 universities from 19 European countries, will start. The most participants (17) come from Switzerland and France and the same plentiful will be also from the home country. A sensation is participation of 3 competitors from Siberian Irkutsk State University who, because of the fact that Russia lies on both continents, can on this European Championship regularly start.
